Step 1
Determine whether or not the trigger is working properly. You should be able to depress the trigger with very little pressure from your index finger. If the trigger sticks or does not move smoothly through its full range of motion, it needs oiling.
Step 2
Place the Daisy BB gun onto some old newspaper or a shop rag as oil may leak during the lubrication process. Hold the rifle upside down to access the trigger area. Use a can of WD-40 with a straw attachment on the nozzle to aim some lubricant into the trigger mechanism itself.
Step 3
Spray oil into the top portion of the trigger where it inserts into the cocking mechanism. Hold the gun upside down for 30 seconds and then flip it over to let excess oil run out. Let the rifle dry for half an hour and then wipe the trigger area with a paper towel to ensure dryness. Pull the trigger through its full range of motion.

Fixing a Jam
Step 1
Determine whether the cause of the jam came from improper feeding. This can happen if you turn the rifle on its side while a BB is in the firing position. To load properly the gun needs to be held straight with a slightly raised muzzle.

Ensure that the BB was not damaged shot. A flattened or scratched BB will often jam. Shot that is excessively dirty can also create a problem. Be sure to use new shot each time you load a Daisy Spring-Air BB Rifle.
Step 3
Check to be sure the correct ammunition was used. Never try to shoot anything other than proper BBs or .117 caliber ammunition.

Step 4
Clear the jam by cocking and firing the gun five times. Hold the rifle straight with a slight elevation to the muzzle for best results.
- Never disassemble the gun. If improperly reassembled serious injury could occur.
- Oil the gun regularly. For best results add two drops of oil in the “oil” hole every 500 shots. A 20-weight motor oil works best.
If you think about takedown shotguns, bear in mind that when the 12 first came out, most shooters were used to doubles and singles, that were of course takedowns. It was common to travel by train on hunting and trapshooting trips, and a take down was much more convenient to transport. The take down feature on pump guns is pretty much only used for cleaning, not for travel these days.
If you look on an old parts list for the 12, you will see that were at least six and maybe eight take up collars available, each with a range of adjustment for wear. There was a reason! Do not take a 12 apart more often than absolutely necessary. Those take up collars are scarcer than Triplelocks!
