Nintendo DS emulators, basically, emulates NDS software on another platform such as PC or Mac. The idea of emulating gaming platforms is not new however; there are emulators for Nintendo's NES, SNES, N64, GameBoy and GBA and Sony's PlayStation and Playstation 2. As for Nintendo DS emulators, there are quite a number of them available in the Internet. An example is the DeSmuME.
DeSmuME is derived from 'DS Emu' and 'ME' (which was a popular form for naming nds software, such as 'LoadME' and 'PassME'). Formerly known as YopYop DS, it is created by YopYop156 and is originally in French. Today DeSmuME is an open source Nintendo DS emulator with binaries for Linux, MAC OS and or couse Window. It is written in C++. YopYop156 stopped development on the DS emulator at version 0.0.3 because of amended French laws regarding emulation. The source code meanwhile was released in public domain. Several developers later released newer versions of the DeSmuME using YopYop156's source code.
DeSmuME DS Emulator supports save states and filters to improve image quality. It also has the ability to increase screen size. It emulates, almost perfectly, all known 2D graphics; has some small issues such as the color bit depths. All 3D features are also emulated using the software rasterizer, except wireframes and antialiasing. The sound features, including the microphone use, are supported. The DeSmuME also emulates direct video and audio recording; it has a built-in movie recorder. As for the WiFi, it is reported that the emulator can support Internet connection; but this is still experimental and in development. It is confirmed, albeit limited, that Mario Kart DS and Worms: Open Warfare 2 can be linked.
The DeSmuMe, and also other Nintendo DS emulators, can be ported to the PlayStation Portable. However, it is useless as the PSP doesn't have a touchscreen and the processor to emulate Nintendo DS games at full speed. But it shows that running a Nintendo DS software on PSP is possible. Nintendo Wii version of this emulator is also available! For Poke fans it is useful to know that this is also one of the best Pokemon emulators with mods that enable multiplayer linking for battles and trading.
As for compatibility issues, the DeSmuME lags behind NO$GBA. Smaller number of games is playable on it but still with video, audio and control errors; famous titles such as Super Mario and Pokemon are not yet supported. Overall the DeSmuME, and also other Nintendo DS emulators, are in need of development and experiment. The unique DS gaming experience is yet to be perfectly emulated.
How to Play Pokemon Black & White on DeSmuME
- First Download the Pokemon Black Rom and PoKeMoN White Version Rom
- Download the DeSmuME DS Emulator
- Extract the emulator in a folder where you want and create a folder for your games here in black and white, laid anywhere
Open the emulator and select the DS rom you want to start the game from, without any extra hacks needed like on no$gba you can simply open and PLAY. - SAVE GAMES - Now it is difficult, and many people may fail to notice this. Pokemon Black and White rom games do not save the regular in-game way on the DeSmuME. They will play it like crazy, up to 3 hours only to notice afterwards that the game can not be saved. No matter how many times you save the game, reset, believe me, or you can try it yourself.
Fortunately DeSmuEM has a nice little Save State feature that solves this problem.
First, in the top menu bar of desmume access the file, then save the state as, then save it in your name as you click and click Save. say, except at the beginning, before the first starter. Retsoring a save state bumps you back to the place in the game you where at before
Desmume emulator is very good. It can run at 1080p full screen mode, without delay, and at full 60 fps / sec clear image of course, you must activate the filter extension.
NDS emu News
Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl games are fully playable with No$GBA. Although You have to look for a specially patched version of the Pokemon Diamond & Pearl download to play on the emulator with save / load working. No$GBA emulator saves and loads fine. Make sure you do not change any settings. Game speed is close to full sometimes and about 60% of the normal speed in the 3D scenes.
This is how Game Save/Load should be done: Start New Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl Game -> Press X (Menu Button) to show menu -> Select Save Game. (DO NOT use No$GBA Write State option in the emulator menu) -> For loading savegames, next time You start the emulator loads the Pokemon ROM and it will automatically display the saved game and you have the ability to load it or start a new game.
No$GBA - No Cash Gameboy Advance emulator starting from version 2.2 contains some NDS emulation support so soon it will be added to our website (v2.3 contains almost full NDS emulation support including 3D) Major Missing Features in NO$GBA DS Emulator are: Sound, and WLAN emulation are still missing. Sound should be relative easy to implement. WLAN should be quite simple, too. Need a second NDS console for testing communications. Also you will need a original NDS BIOS file for commercial games that is encrypted ROM-images. (Don't worry - we will help you with getting the BIOS rom file)
